Who We Are
The LOC has come up with a uniquely Lesotho’s feel to share the rich history of the Kingdom of Lesotho with the rest of the Region by integrating the Games to serve as strategic catalyst to advance some of the specific agendas of the government. The LOC came up with the theme: UNITE, RISE and BUILD…a well-balanced integration of the general status quo of the Kingdom from where it was in 2017 to where we want to see it in 2020 and beyond. We are the Region 5 Youth Games Maseru 2020, a resident establishment to mainly and purposefully organize, coordinate and mobilize resources for the preparations of the Games.
Protocol Agreement signed on the 14th December 2017 between the African Union Sport Council (AUSC) Region 5 and the government of the Kingdom of Lesotho gave birth to yet another opportunity of hosting the 9th edition of the AUSC Region 5 Youth Games. A Local Organizing Committee (LOC) was formerly established following the approval of Cabinet of the Kingdom to organize and coordinate the preparation of the Games to be held in the capital City of Lesotho, Maseru in December 2020. The AUSC Region 5 Youth Games Maseru 2020 attracts participation of ten (10) member Countries classified as Region 5 under the AUSC territorial domains of which also forms part of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) membership.
The AUSC Region 5 Youth Games – Maseru 2020 is the Government project that is championed by the Ministry of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation. Following the establishment of the LOC Board by the Honorable Minister Likeleli Tampane, the Secretariat was on-boarded to operationalize the Games Master Plan working hand in hand with various Cluster Committees which are headed by the respective Board members. The LOC is constituted of the following functional areas which are regarded as Clusters:
- Games Services
- Games Village
- Finance and Audit
