MASERU-The African Union Sports (AUSC) Region 5 Maseru 2020 Games Organising committee Chairperson Stanley Mutoya said South Africa did not withdraw from the games but sent their players to their country as per the games COVID-19 regulations that athletes who have completed their competitions return back to their countries.

“South Africa team have sent their players back to their country as per the mitigation set by Region 5 earlier. Their other teams are still here. I can confirm that team South Africa competed in those competitions that they competed in, even on Wednesday we crowned South Africa netball team champions and they also competed in other sporting codes but they decided not to bring their Judo and athletics due to the reported cases. For us, we are happy that we are able to isolate people immediately. The only concern is that we are reporting cases. It’s something that we would not wish to have,” Mutoya told the media briefing on Thursday.
